From idea to impact: how Secret Emporia is developing smart logistics solutions across Algeria
Published: 28 Feb 2025
Overview
Logistics is an essential backbone for economic activity. Many operators in Algeria face fragmented data,
inefficient routing and underused assets. We partnered with a regional carrier to design and pilot a stack
combining IoT telemetry, predictive demand models, and route-optimization algorithms.
Problem
The operator struggled with unpredictable demand peaks, high fuel and maintenance costs, and poor last-mile reliability. Visibility across fleet and warehouses was limited.
Our approach
- Telemetry & IoT — instrumented vehicles and storages to capture location, fuel, temperature and utilization metrics.
- Data platform — ingested telemetry to a central analytics pipeline; deployed dashboards for operations teams.
- Predictive models — demand forecasting and ETA models reduced wasted movement.
- Routing — integrated optimization engine to recommend dynamic routes and load plans.
Results
- Estimated 12-18% reduction in route distance in pilot zones.
- Improved on-time delivery rates and fewer missed drops.
- Better asset utilization leading to potential capex deferral.
- Operations teams gained a single source of truth for fleet and warehouse metrics.
Lessons learned
Start with clean telemetry and a small pilot area. Work closely with dispatch teams — optimization algorithms must reflect real-world constraints (breaks, loading times, customer windows). Data quality is the most common blocker; invest in reliable sensors and edge validation.
Next steps
Scaling the platform across regions, adding predictive maintenance, and connecting the routing engine to third-party marketplaces for dynamic load matching.
